(There Is No) Dark Side of the Moon

And so the creatures of the former
Squirm and squeeze
Dense in their numbers
Soft in their flesh.
They sit in our darkness
In our folklore
Yet we are told
There is no dark side
Of the moon.
If we are all stardust (to dust)
Then why do I wake
in the night
Looking to the sky
For those missing constellations?

This illustration and poem are dedicated to all the species lost, of whom a few are featured here. Scroll down to see the animals listed. Though I have forgotten a few of their names, they were all equally important.

If you are interested in honouring lost species (and saving those that remain), I suggest you visit lostspeciesday.org where their memory is celebrated and a day is set aside in their memory every year on the 30th of November.
